NRKW ID 2.0

This application offers current identification images of all living individuals within the Northern Resident killer whale population. Annually, updates will incorporate new calf images, revised photographs for individuals whose appearance has undergone significant change, and pertinent notes. Users can navigate the database by Clan, Pod, and Matriline, or by sex and age class.

In the ALL section, "Mature females" encompass all females aged 15 years or older, individuals over 14 who have not yet developed their dorsal fin, and younger females who have given birth. "Mature males" include all males that have initiated dorsal fin sprouting, males with fully developed dorsal fins after sprouting, and known males over 14 who have not yet started sprouting. The "Juveniles" category covers individuals between 4 and 14 years of age, while "Calves" are defined as those aged 3 or less.

Individuals in the ALL section are organized alphabetically by name. In the Matriline view, they are arranged by generation with indentation to denote lineage and further sorted by birth year. Each identification image is accompanied by information about the individual—name, sex, birth year, mother—and details regarding the photograph—photographer and year taken. Full-screen viewing is available by clicking on each image.

The News section provides updates on the status of individual whales within the Northern Resident population.

These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Bay Cetology concerning your use of the NRKW ID Application. By accessing and using the app, you agree to comply with these terms. The app itself, along with associated trademarks, copyrights, database rights, and other intellectual property rights belong exclusively to Bay Cetology. No content—be it images, text, logos, or icons—may be copied, modified, or redistributed without explicit permission. Unauthorized extraction of source code, translation into other languages, or creation of derivative works is strictly prohibited.

The app processes your personal data—including your name, email address, and login credentials—in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their device and access credentials. In the event of app termination by Bay Cetology, all rights granted to the user will cease; you must then cease use of the app and delete it from your device if necessary.

Bay Cetology reserves the right to amend these terms at any time without prior notice. Continued use of the app signifies acceptance of any modifications.
